Breast Lift

SCHEDULE TODAYFAQ

One of the most common effects of pregnancy and breastfeeding is experiencing looseness in the breast. A breast lift can create smoother and more youthful looking breasts to restore your shapely lifted look.

What is a breast lift?

Sagging, drooping or deflated breasts, sometimes the result of pregnancy or breastfeeding, can significantly affect a woman’s appearance and self-esteem. Sagging and loss of elasticity in the breasts are perfectly normal outcomes of giving birth; however, they don’t have to remain that way permanently, thanks to a procedure known as Mastopexy, or the Breast Lift.

With thousands of successful surgical breast procedures under his belt, Dr. Capizzi is considered a breast lift specialist, and as such is able to restore volume and youthfulness to breasts of all conditions. A breast lift consists of raising and reshaping the bust, and this procedure is often wisely complemented by a breast augmentation, or a complete Mommy Makeover.

A mastopexy, with or without implants, can dramatically alter your profile, reviving breast firmness and perkiness while boosting confidence and even making clothes fit better.

Who’s a candidate for a breast lift?

Dr. Capizzi will advise each client individually, taking into consideration, personal anatomy and medical records as well as the patient’s concerns regarding sagging, drooping or deflated breasts, sometimes the result of pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Techniques

Mini Lift

There are several types of breast lifts that Dr. Capizzi can perform, the most common one being a “Benelli Lift” (also called a “Donut Lift”). Some other names for this type of surgery you may have heard are periareolar lift, minimal circumareolar lift, mini-lift or tacking. The Benelli Lift leaves the fewest scars, and is often the best choice for a patient who is undergoing breast augmentation at the same time, or one for who breast sagging is less pronounced. This is a mastopexy in which an incision is made around the outside of the areola, after which excess tissue is excised. This technique can move the nipple areola complex 1-2cm up or down.

Full Lift

In cases where the breasts are severely sagging with the areola falling below the crease, Dr. Capizzi may advise a traditional, full mastopexy. In this type of breast lift, the nipple can be elevated up to 8 cm or more, depending on the desired final result. An incision in the shape of an upside-down “T” is created, extending from the outer boundary of the areola, then downwards and across the breast crease, aligning with the body’s natural curvature. As with the Benelli Lift, excess tissue is then removed and the nipple is raised to a more appealing location. Dr. Capizzi’s unmatched skill and experience with this procedure ensures that nipple sensation remains intact and that future breast-feeding remains an option for those who have not given birth.

Short Scar Lift

The limited or “short scar” breast lift is an incision that appears as a lollipop. The mini lift, circumareaolar incision, and the vertical incision make this lift popular with breast implants.

Combining a breast lift with breast augmentation or a “Mommy Makeover”

Mastopexy in conjunction with implant surgery or body contouring is an excellent way to maximize your appearance while minimizing recovery time and scarring. Moms have been going to Dr. Capizzi for over a decade in order to take advantage of his peerless artistry and expertise in all areas of breast improvement. Often the postoperative silhouette is more youthful, pleasing and appealing than even before pregnancy. Dr. Capizzi is the area’s most sought-after Gummy Bear expert, and these trend-setting, round or tear-shaped implants are most patients’ preferred choice. While Dr. Capizzi advises this combination is ideal for women whose breast development has stopped, patients who have not yet given birth will be pleased to learn that their milk ducts and nipples remain intact after the procedures. Dr. Capizzi is available for in-depth consultation regarding this procedure.

Recovery

Dr. Capizzi will design a full, customized recovery plan for each patient that addresses their breast lift needs, wishes and outcomes. While recovery time does vary with the individual, most patients find their healing is swift and manageable. The doctor recommends minimal strain, bed rest and reduced activity for several days.

Dressing

Some patients may require the need for small drain tubes to be placed to clear fluids for the first week, but these will not affect your ability to shower or engage in light activity.  Post-surgery, surgical tape and gauze dressing (can be removed the following day), will cover your sutures. The surgical tape can be removed at your first post-op appointment by a member of the clinical staff and the sutures will dissolve on their own within 6-8 weeks. You may experience some tenderness or even lack of sensitivity in the areola/nipple area as your body heals, and this is completely normal and temporary. As with all procedures, Dr. Capizzi and his highly trained staff are on hand 24/7 to respond to your concerns and questions as you traverse the path to a complete recovery and the new, improved you.
