What does the Mommy Makeover Include?
There are many individual procedures that can be included as part of the Mommy Makeover. Traditionally, it included a breast augmentation or breast lift (or sometimes both in combination), a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), and liposuction for additional body contouring. In addition to these procedures, today’s Mommy Makeover can also include arm lift contouring (brachioplasty); fat grafting to help enhance breast size, shape, and volume; gluteal enhancement (buttock augmentation, aka the “Brazilian Butt Lift), and vaginal therapy (labiaplasty, diVa rejuvenation). At Capizzi, MD, we also offer additional skincare and rejuvenation services such as Kybella and Profound, as well as Women’s Health and Wellness initiatives that help women with guided diet and weight loss programs, IV fluid hydration therapy, and hormone monitoring and replacement therapy. We are always pleased to meet and discuss which options will help each individual patient look and feel her best, schedule a consultation to find out which are right for you!
Am I a candidate for a Mommy Makeover?
We would love to meet you and find out! Most patients indeed are excellent candidates. During your consultation we perform a thorough review of your health and medical history and a physical exam to determine your candidacy for a procedure.
What should I ask during my Consultation?
The first questions to ask are done before you walk through our doors; ask yourself what it is about your activity, your body, or your self-esteem that you would like to improve or get back to where you felt the most confidant, sexy, and assured. If there are certain aspects that are troubling you, share that information with us and ask what options there are to help remedy them. With any procedure consultation, ask your surgeon about the time periods involved in your recovery, including how long until you can get back to work, back to the gym, and back to sexual activity. Also, it’s important to ask what non-invasive treatments performed outside of the operating room are available for you.
What are the risks of Mommy Makeover surgery?
The main risks and potential complications for Mommy Makeover surgery include the accumulation of protein fluid (seroma) or blood (hematoma) around the operative tissues. Scarring, asymmetry, and a change in normal skin sensation are also possible. These risks are relatively mild and can often be treated conservatively without requiring additional procedures or interventions. We discuss the risks, benefits, and alternatives to all treatment types with our patients prior to performing any procedure.
Can all the procedures be done at one time?
Many times, we are able to perform multiple procedures in a single operative setting, depending on the types of treatments that are best for each woman. In addition, several of our therapies, including Profound, Kybella, IV hydration therapy, and hormone monitoring and replacement therapy, are administered without the need for a trip to the operating room. During your consultation, appropriate and safe timing for therapies will be discussed to make a plan tailor-made to your needs and goals.
What is the recovery time for mommy makeover?
Each patient’s recovery will ultimately depend on the operative procedures performed. Patients are encouraged to be up and walking the same day as surgery, and will gradually increase their levels of activity and comfort each day. We recommend avoiding over-strenuous or exertional exercise or activity for the first 2-3 weeks after surgery, with a full return to normal exercise and activity by 4-6 weeks. With respect to sexual function, women are able to comfortably return to their normal activity within 5-7 days after diVa vaginal rejuvenation, and within 4-6 weeks after labiaplasty.
Will a caesarean section or hysterectomy affect Mommy Makeover results?
Mommy Makeover procedures can be performed safely and with excellent results in patients with a prior C-section or hysterectomy. Always inform your doctor of any past surgical procedures you’ve had, and don’t let a past operation trick you into thinking you aren’t a good candidate for a future one.
If I’m breastfeeding, when is the earliest I can have surgery?
We recommend waiting a period of at least 3 months between stopping breastfeeding and having an operation. This allows for the resolution of any inflammation or swelling of the breast skin and tissue, resulting in a better aesthetic and functional outcome of your procedure.
How long will I need help taking care of my family after a Mommy Makeover?
This will likely depend on the procedure or procedures performed, combined with a woman’s normal level of activity. Generally, most patients prefer to have an extra hand to help with family duties for 2 to 3 days after an operation. Our team will help you plan for anticipated time off from work and home based on what is best for your choice of treatments.
When can I pick up my baby?
The very next day after surgery. You will want to have someone help with taking your baby in and out of a car seat or a crib, but otherwise you won’t be limited in the time you spend picking up and holding your little ones.
Should I wait until my family is complete before proceeding with a Mommy Makeover? Or can I have more kids after my Mommy Makeover?
We generally recommend waiting until after you have had your family before considering the Mommy Makeover therapies. The reason being that your results will be most consistent and optimized once your body has undergone the changes from childbirth. While you are certainly able to have children after any Mommy Makeover therapies, you may find that additional procedures are needed to return you to your desired results.
What is a Drainless Tummy Tuck?
The drainless tummy tuck describes the method of closing the skin and soft tissue at the end of the procedure. By using the innovative and effective TissuGlu Surgical Adhesive, it’s possible to minimize and prevent the body’s natural production and accumulation of fluid at the surgical area. Less fluid means less need for any postoperative drains, and many patients report increased postoperative comfort, increased level of activity, and a quicker recovery and return to their daily activities.
How will I know if I need Liposuction or Muscle Tightening with a Tummy Tuck?
During your consultation, we will examine your abdomen and determine which therapy will help you make the most of your Mommy Makeover experience. Liposuction is a useful therapy to perform when there is additional fatty tissue over the hips, sides, and thighs. Muscle tightening, or rectus plication, is necessary when the muscles in the middle of the abdomen are stretched from their original, taut position and cause extra laxity. These two therapies can be performed at the same time as a tummy tuck to help return the shape and contour your midsection.
What is the best way to fix stretch marks?
Depending on their type and location, laser therapy can be used to help minimize the appearance of stretch marks. Direct excision, or surgical removal of the skin and area of concern, is another way to address these troubling areas. The benefit of direct excision is that it that it is performed at the same time as many breast, tummy, and arm rejuvenation procedures, leaving you with a healthy and youthful appearance and skin tone.
Is Labiaplasty an option to add to the Mommy Makeover procedure?
It is. Labiaplasty is performed to remove excess labial tissue that can cause pain and discomfort with daily activity and while wearing certain clothing, can prevent stimulation and enjoyment with sexual activity, and be an area of self-consciousness and inhibition for many women. Additionally, labiaplasty can tighten the vaginal opening and result in enhanced sexual stimulation and satisfaction.
